Dreaming of Snakes

Early this morning, I dreamt of a snake! I had entered my small, wooden cabin, and began walking along the workbench when I saw the snake - small, fast, poisonous. Because I was in a narrow walkway I began to sprint along the workbench, the snake rapidly following. The dream ended as the snake leapt toward me - I was not able to outrun it.

A couple points of analysis:
- Small: The snake was very small. This seems to suggest to me that I should not underestimate a small, but important threat or fear that I have been ignoring.
- Venomous: The snake was poisonous, not a constrictor. This snake, although small, could take me down quickly. I would not be able to use strength to defeat it. According to Freud, snakes in dreams have a masculine connotation; so maybe a venomous snake reveals that I have a toxic element, need to rid myself of a toxic friendship, or need to be careful of future toxic friendships.
- Fast: I was not able to outrun the snake! Accordingly, I will need to proactively devise a solution to address the snake since I cannot continue to outrun it.
- House: The snake was chasing me in my house! This fear or threat is able to invade the interworking of my family, friends, mind, or home. A first-order interpretation: I am unhappy in my current living situation.

This is a bit of a tough warning: I am glad to have received it, but it means that I have a great deal of work ahead. I need to identify this fear or threat, and come up with a crafty way of removing the snake from my house, killing the snake, or becoming immune to the snake's venom. On a very literal level, I have been thinking more and more about Costa Rica recently - maybe this is a surface-level warning that living there would expose me to a whole host of tropical pests and diseases. But more likely, there is an unresolved problem in my life that I need to proactively address, rather than running away from it.
